“Hello, I’m Chanel Dehond, a Toronto-born, London-based artist, illustrator, and designer.”
My work explores the intersection of architecture, illustration, and storytelling. Trained as an architect, I use bold black-and-white line drawings, primarily created with acrylic paint markers, to distill complex structures and ideas into approachable, expressive artworks. Through careful composition and minimal gestures, I aim to shift the often inaccessible or formal world of architecture and fine art into something more playful, relatable, and human.
At the heart of my practice is the belief that "like the two simple lines that make eyebrows on a face, the smallest gestures can make the biggest impact." Whether interpreting an iconic city skyline or a familiar phrase, my goal is to capture a sense of clarity, movement, and wit through deliberate, thoughtful mark-making.
“Like the two simple lines that make eyebrows on a face, the smallest gestures can make the biggest impact.”
Many of my pieces reinterpret architectural landmarks, while others explore language and puns, inviting viewers to engage not only visually but also conceptually. Works such as Date Night and Cape Cod reflect my interest in how wordplay and imagery can merge, encouraging a sense of discovery and humor within the work.
“Meeting new people is my peanut butter, and collaborating is my jam.”
